Enzo Fernández Apologizes for Racist Chants
The recent Copa América champion, Enzo Fernández, paused the celebrations to address the significant controversy caused by a video in which the player appears singing racist words. This video went viral due to the poor judgment of the Chelsea player, who quickly tried to calm the situation among fans and the general public.
"I sincerely apologize for a video posted on my Instagram during the national team's celebrations. The song includes highly offensive language and there is absolutely no excuse for these words. I am against discrimination in all its forms and I apologize for getting carried away by the euphoria of our Copa América celebrations. That video, that moment, those words do not reflect my way of thinking or my character. I am truly sorry." These were the words of apology from the Chelsea captain.
After receiving some unfollows from teammates and viral comments from players like Koundé about the video in which he appears singing racist words, and even a threat from the French Football Federation to take legal action against him, Fernández apologized for an action that will haunt him throughout his career and is undoubtedly unworthy of a captain.
