Di María Dreamed of Winning the Copa América
Ángel Di María, excited after winning the Copa América, said he had dreamed of winning the title.
"It was written, it was meant to be this way, I told the guys last night at dinner, that it was the last Copa América and it ended here. I dreamed that we would reach the final, I dreamed that I would win it and retire in this way," he declared at the end of the match.
Argentina defeated Colombia 1-0 with a goal from Lautaro Martínez and were crowned champions.
Di María stated that although "it seems easy to become champions so many times," it is not.
"I know because I experienced it from the other side too, fighting and struggling for 10 years, it’s not easy to reach the finals and win them, and now it’s happening. That's how it is, at some point it had to happen," he added.
"I have so many beautiful sensations in my body, like I told the guys last night, I am eternally grateful to this generation. They gave me everything, they helped me achieve what I had long sought, and today I leave this way, what could be better, right?"
"I told many of the guys from the previous team, I would have liked to win one with them too, we deserved it as well, but it happened at this moment. Continuing to insist, and these guys gave me everything," he expressed.
And about the injury to captain Lionel Messi, who was taken off in the 65th minute, Di María said: "I’m not happy because he had to leave that way, due to the ankle problem, but today we were finally able to win for him, to give him joy."
"I think it was a perfect night," concluded "El Fideo."
