De Paul Reveals the Secret Behind their Copa América Victory
Argentine midfielder Rodrigo De Paul revealed that after seeing Lionel Messi crying on the bench due to the injury that prevented him from finishing the Copa América final, the rest of the players united to "win for him."
In the 66th minute of the match against Colombia in Miami, the Argentina captain had to be substituted due to a right ankle injury that led him to the bench, where television images showed Messi crying.
For his part, the Atlético Madrid midfielder, in an interview with the Argentine outlet Olga, stated that it is unusual for stadium screens to show images like that, but the sight of the captain in tears made the players feel that they had to win for him.
"When Leo went out, I don't know if we thought: 'Oh no, we're screwed,' you say: '#$%#$&$, the one who rubs the lamp is out.' And when we see the image, it generates a total uproar in the crowd. We saw it and said: 'It's for him.' I feel it was for him," De Paul expressed.
Upon returning to Argentina, De Paul attended a training session of Racing Club, where he was seen conversing with members of the entity and the team's current coach, Gustavo Costas, according to the Academia on their social media.
