Change in Argentina's Squad from Qatar World Cup to Copa América
Argentina begin it's journey in the Copa América 2024 against Canada this Thursday, June 20 at the Mercedez-Benz Stadium.
It's been a while since Argentina clinched the World Cup title by defeating France in a penalty shootout at the Qatar 2022 World Cup. This Thursday, we'll see the South American team in action again as the Copa América begins. However, there will be some changes this time around.
Of the 26 players selected by Scaloni for the Qatar World Cup, 21 will be returning. Those not making the cut this time are Alejandro Gómez, due to a doping suspension, Thiago Almada, who will be going to the Olympics, and Juan Foyth and Ángel Correa, who replaced Nicolás González and Paulo Dybala in Asia.
The new faces for Argentina are mostly young players experiencing their first tournament with the senior national team, such as Alejandro Garnacho and Valentín Carboni. Additionally, Giovani Lo Celso and Lucas Martínez Quarta will be other new additions to the squad since lifting the World Cup in 2022.
