Alexis Sánchez Vents Over Chile's Elimination from The Copa América
Alexis Sánchez described Chile's exit from the Copa América in the United States as "a frustrating elimination."
"I'm leaving frustrated because, while we did make mistakes, we were also affected by refereeing decisions like today’s," said the 35-year-old striker, referring to Colombian referee Wilmar Roldán.
"I told the referee that he didn’t seem calm, and that's a problem when he is the one who needs to be in the right frame of mind to officiate an important match like today’s," complained the player from Tocopilla in an interview with journalists after the match in Orlando, where Chile and Canada drew 0-0, which qualified the Concacaf team for the Quarterfinals and sent the Conmebol team home.
"The Wonder Boy" said that it wasn’t the first time La Roja felt wronged by Roldán’s decisions.
"It's frustrating, it’s not an excuse, but so many decisions against us leave us frustrated," he emphasized.
When questioned about Chile’s inability to score, as they finished the group stage without scoring a single goal in three matches, he admitted it was due to "a lack of connection up front," but expressed confidence that this campaign would help coach Ricardo Gareca adjust the team for the World Cup qualifiers.
