Paranaense Knocks Out the Cyclone with a STUNNING GOAL!
Club Athletico Paranaense defeated Cerro Porteño 2-1 to secure their place in the Round of 16 of the Copa Sudamericana with a stunning goal from Tomás Cuello, despite playing with one man down for almost 17 minutes.
With a surprising goal by Gonzalo Mastriani in the 3rd minute of the match, the Brazilians seemed to have a clear path to the Round of 16 of the Sudamericana. However, the determination and grit of the Paraguayan club didn't disappoint and they saved their efforts for the second half.
In the second half of the match, Paranaense came out even more eager to win, and with a great goal from Tomás Cuello in the 59th minute, they increased their lead to what seemed an uncatchable margin. But the expulsion of Bruno Zapelli in the 66th minute changed everything.
Cerro Porteño took advantage of the numerical superiority to narrow the gap in the 68th minute, putting the locals under pressure. However, an expulsion of Víctor Cabañas in the 83rd minute hampered the Paraguayan team's aspirations, leaving them just short of taking the game to penalties.
With this result, Paranaense will face Belgrano in the Round of 16 of the Copa Conmebol Sudamericana.
