Brazilian Defender Tinga Aims to Make History with Fortaleza in the 2023 Copa Sudamericana Final
From the bustling streets of Brazil to the electrifying atmospheres of South American football stadiums, Guilherme de Jesus da Silva, fondly known as Tinga, has been living every footballer's dream. The 30-year old right-back, currently plying his trade for Fortaleza, is on the cusp of making history for club and country.
As Fortaleza gears up for the 2023 Copa Sudamericana Final, Tinga couldn't help but express his emotions. "It's like living a dream. We are elated for this opportunity to play in such a prestigious final. It's significant for the team, the country, but most importantly for the people of Nordeste who have never seen their team reach a final. Moreover, for the club, this is the most crucial title in its history. We are ecstatic and look forward to delivering an excellent performance," said the Brazilian.
The 2023 Copa Sudamericana Final will be aired exclusively on beIN SPORTS across North America, with the match buildup slated for 3:30 PM ET / 12:30 PM PT. Established in 2002, the Copa Sudamericana is South America's answer to the UEFA Europa League, drawing elite club-soccer teams from across the continent.
It's not just any game for Fortaleza. Saturday's final will mark their 17th game of the season in the South American club competition. They have surmounted considerable challenges, besting notable opponents such as Libertad, Atletico Mineiro, and Corinthians. Facing them is LDU Quito, an Ecuadorian side that boasts an impressive pedigree. The 2023 finalists are no strangers to glory, having won both the Copa Sudamericana in 2009, the Copa Libertadores in 2008, and clinching the Ecuadorian Serie A title eleven times.
As the anticipation reaches a fever pitch, Tinga acknowledges the inevitable anxiety. "Of course, we are well-prepared. But now, as we've landed here, seeing the fervent fans and the ambiance, that's when the real excitement begins. But it's a good kind of anxiousness. We're eager for the game to start, to put on a spectacle, and hopefully, clinch the title."
The Brazilian's confidence is palpable as he adds, "Absolutely, we're ready to make history."
