River Plate Knocked Out of Copa Libertadores by Atlético Mineiro
River Plate couldn’t conjure any magic to overturn their semifinal deficit in the Copa Libertadores, managing only a 0-0 draw at home against Atlético Mineiro, who advanced 3-0 on aggregate.
In the first half, “Los Millonarios,” driven by their fans at El Monumental, came out on the attack, firing off over 14 shots in the first 45 minutes. Despite their efforts, they went into halftime with the score still at 0-0.
The second half played out similarly, with River Plate pushing forward while Mineiro held their ground and threatened on the counter to widen their lead. But the game ended scoreless, sealing the tie and sending Atlético Mineiro through.
With this result, Atlético Mineiro reaches the Copa Libertadores final for the second time in their history. They await the winner of Botafogo vs. Peñarol as they aim for their second Libertadores title.
