Botafogo Reaches Its First Copa Libertadores Final Ever!
Botafogo has punched its ticket to the 2024 CONMEBOL Copa Libertadores Final after defeating Uruguayan powerhouse Peñarol with an aggregate score of 6-2. This will be Botafogo’s first-ever appearance in a Libertadores final!
The team has been on fire this season, leading the “Brasileirão” standings, and in the Libertadores, they've been boosted by the Brazilian national team duo Igor Jesus and Luiz Henrique.
Despite a bit of a shaky start, finishing second in their group, Botafogo showed why they’re Brazil’s top team right now in the knockout stages. They eliminated Palmeiras, one of the tournament’s big favorites and historically strong teams, in the Round of 16.
Then, in the quarterfinals, they took down São Paulo in a penalty shootout and sealed their status as favorites by beating six-time Libertadores champs Peñarol in the semis. Now, they’ll face fellow Brazilians Atlético Mineiro in the Grand Final on November 30, 2024.
