Ampadu and Leeds targeting Championship title after sealing promotion
Leeds United returned to the Premier League at the first time of asking, and with two games remaining, can still win the Championship title.
Ethan Ampadu remained focused on winning the Championship title after helping secure Leeds United's return to the Premier League on Monday.
Leeds thrashed Stoke City 6-0 at Elland Road, with four goals from Joel Piroe and further strikes by Junior Firpo and Wilfried Gnonto sealing an emphatic victory.
They became the first team to be 4-0 up inside 30 minutes in a Championship match since Norwich City did so against Huddersfield Town in April 2021.
Daniel Farke's side were then helped out by Burnley, who beat Sheffield United at Turf Moor in the late kick-off to confirm Leeds', and their own, promotion to the top flight.
Ampadu has played a key role for Leeds this season, making 27 Championship appearances despite missing 16 games with two separate knee injuries.
With both Leeds and Burnley winning, the two teams are level on 94 points heading into the final two games of their respective campaigns.
And Leeds captain Ampadu has challenged his team-mates to finish the season on a high and to go up as champions.
"Very proud. A lot of positives. The celebrations are amazing. We've worked all year for this," Ampadu told Sky Sports shortly after Leeds' promotion was confirmed.
"Not to put a dampener on it, we've still got another target we want to achieve, so we're going to enjoy tonight, and then we're going to try and do the full thing."
Ampadu did not play down the significance of their win over Cardiff, with Leeds earning a rare Easter Monday win, having lost seven of their previous eight league games on that day heading into the contest.
"That was the biggest thing today. We didn't know what was going to happen in this game, so for us we were just so happy about our performance," Ampadu added.
"We've been building for a couple of weeks to get back to our levels and I think today showed that. We all came together and this is another little push. Another boost.
"Another two games, and we can finish off the job."
Leeds' final two games see them welcome promotion-chasing Bristol City to Elland Road next Monday before taking on Plymouth Argyle on the final day of the campaign.
Burnley, meanwhile, face Queens Park Rangers before concluding their season at Turf Moor against Millwall.
