Al Ahly Comes Back and Scores SIX Goals in CAF Champions League
The current CAF Champions League champions, Al Ahly from Egypt, sent a powerful message in the competition by thrashing CR Belouizdad 6-1 on Sunday, with a standout hat-trick from Wessam Abou Ali. This is the largest victory in the group stage so far, reaffirming Al Ahly's determination to defend their title.
At the Cairo International Stadium, Al Ahly bounced back after Aimen Mahious gave Belouizdad the lead in the 21st minute. Abou Ali equalized just before halftime, setting the tone for a dominant second half.
Abou Ali shone with three goals, including a stunning free-kick in the 51st minute and a long-range shot in the 84th. Additionally, Hussein El Shahat and Percy Tau joined the scoring spree, with Tau’s long-range goal being one of the highlights.
In stoppage time, Emam Ashour sealed the victory with a sixth goal, sending the local fans into a frenzy, although he received a yellow card for his exuberant celebration. Meanwhile, Belouizdad, now in third place in Group C with three points, couldn’t cope with Al Ahly's unstoppable attack, despite a few sporadic chances, such as Mahious’ blocked attempts.
With this win, Al Ahly leads Group C with seven points, two ahead of Orlando Pirates, who drew with Stade d’Abidjan in the other group match. This stunning victory makes it clear why Al Ahly remains the team to beat in the competition.
