Kompany talks about the comparison with Guardiola: "One must live their career as a coach"
Bayern Munich's coach, Vincent Kompany, declared that "everyone has to live their career as a coach" in response to comparisons with Pep Guardiola, who managed the German club and also coached him when he played for Manchester City.
In a press conference, the new manager of the Bavarian club stated that "Pep is perhaps the most special coach in the world," whom he has "a lot of respect for," but that he only focuses on what his "football ideas" will be.
"I believe in my personality and being brave. (Manuel) Pellegrini and other coaches also helped me a lot. One has to feel and live their career as a coach," he added.
Regarding his football proposal, the Belgian insisted that "systems are no longer discussed as much because the German league is very good, and you can see that players can play with several of them."
"I've spoken to everyone so far. I talk a lot with the defenders. Sometimes it's about details and confidence to play aggressively. But also with ball possession to have control. I'm lucky to work at a very high level. We talk about positional play, pressing, movements, or creating spaces... we know the profile of the players we have and their preferred positions. We will adapt to that," he emphasized.
The coach claimed that they have "the opportunity to create an exceptional team" and that "it is important to integrate the new players as soon as possible," in addition to wanting to "see the hunger they have on the field."
"I could spend all afternoon mentioning the names of all the great players on this team. These names have high value in the German press, and I understand that. When I was captain, nobody said that Kompany was guaranteed to always play. It doesn't work that way. When you play with talented players, you know they are used to that. We will need everyone. That's why I don't want to mention anyone individually," he explained.
Kompany concluded by remarking that he has spoken with Manuel Neuer and other players, but only to introduce himself, as he does not want to "bother them during the holidays." He also mentioned that he likes the life and culture of Bavaria and Munich.
