Dortmund to Pay Terzic Significant Severance
Former Borussia Dortmund coach Edin Terzic reportedly received over one million euros in severance pay after resigning from his position at the North Rhine-Westphalia club.
According to the newspaper BILD, this amount corresponds to the four months remaining on his contract for this year. The report also mentions a "special clause" in the severance agreement, stating that Terzic can only access the funds if he doesn't sign with a new club immediately.
The paper reveals that Terzic has drawn interest from English clubs after leading his team to the Champions League final against Real Madrid at Wembley. His name is already known in the Premier League, as he was an assistant coach to Slaven Bilic at West Ham United from 2015 to 2017.
Terzic resigned last Thursday after a meeting with club executives, including CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke, new sporting director Lars Ricken, technical director Sebastian Kehl, technical staff member Sven Mislintat, and advisor Matthias Sammer. The meeting was reportedly very emotional, with tears shed by those present.
The resignation came after a prolonged internal conflict with player Mats Hummels, who also recently left Dortmund, and a lack of recognition at the club, which ultimately convinced Terzic to step down voluntarily.
Terzic's replacement is former club player Nuri Şahin.
