Bombshell: Edin Terzic Leaves Borussia Dortmund
The German club announced that the coach, a Champions League finalist, requested the termination of his contract, and the club agreed.
Major surprise from Germany. Edin Terzic and Borussia Dortmund part ways. The German club announced this Thursday via a statement on their social media channels.
"Edin Terzic leaves Borussia Dortmund. The coach, who won the DFB Cup with BVB in 2021, was runner-up in the 2023 championship and reached the 2024 Champions League final, requested the immediate termination of his contract. Borussia Dortmund agreed to the request after a joint discussion."
In a video posted on X, Terzic himself said that after speaking with the club's executives, he had concluded it was time for someone else to take charge of the team.
This morning, Dortmund's executives held a meeting to analyze the season, and the first conclusion reached was Terzic's departure.
Dortmund's recently concluded season was challenging; despite reaching the Champions League final, where they lost to Real Madrid, they only managed a disappointing fifth place in the Bundesliga.
According to information from the newspaper "Bild," Nuri Sahin, a former player for Dortmund and Madrid, could replace Terzic on the bench, assisted by Sven Bender as assistant coach.
"It's a difficult moment for me after 15 years of working at the club. The last 6 years with the coaching staff have been special, and it has been a great honor for me to lead the team to win the German Cup and reach the Champions League final," said Terzic.
Terzic served as head coach for the last two seasons, as well as the 2020/2021 season. In the 2022/2023 campaign, he came very close to winning the Bundesliga, only to lose it on the final day against Mainz.
