Will Cristiano Ronaldo Continue with Portugal?
Cristiano Ronaldo, forward for Portugal, hinted this Saturday through a message on his social media that he will continue playing for his national team. He affirmed that the legacy his generation has built with the Portuguese team "will continue to grow" in the future, with him and his fans at the forefront.
Less than 24 hours after Portugal's elimination in the quarter-finals of the Euro 2024 (by France in penalties), the 39-year-old former Real Madrid player left the door open to continue answering calls from his coach, Roberto Martínez.
"We wanted more. We deserved more. For us and for each one of you. For Portugal. We are grateful for everything you have given us and for everything we have achieved so far. On and off the field, I am sure this legacy will be honored and will continue to grow. Together," he wrote on 'X'.
Cristiano participated in all of Portugal's matches in the Euro. He started in all five games: the three group stage matches (against the Czech Republic, Turkey, and Georgia), the round of 16 (against Slovenia), and the quarter-final (against France). He missed a penalty in extra time against Slovenia but scored in the shootouts of that match and the one against France. However, he left the Euro without scoring a goal from open play in the 486 minutes he played, the second most on his team, only behind goalkeeper Diogo Costa, who accumulated 510 minutes.
