UEFA Opens "Investigation" into Bellingham for Gestures Against Slovakia
UEFA announced on Monday that an "Ethics and Disciplinary Inspector" will conduct a disciplinary investigation into a possible breach of basic rules of decent conduct by English footballer Jude Bellingham during the Euro 2024 Round of 16 match against Slovakia.
The forward, who scored the equalizer in the 95th minute of the clash at the Arena AufSchalke, made gestures towards the Slovakian bench after scoring the tying goal.
"Information on this matter will be disclosed in due course," added UEFA regarding the English attacker, whose next match is next Saturday against Switzerland in the tournament's quarterfinals.
Later that night, after the match, the player explained on his social media that the celebration was "an internal joke gesture towards close friends who were at the game."
"Nothing but respect for how Slovakia's team played tonight," he added.
