This Player Will Captain France in Mbappé's Absence
Ahead of the Nations League clash against Israel, N'Golo Kanté made it clear that he's ready to wear the captain's armband this Thursday.
“I think it’s possible. We have one more training session left, but it’s very likely,” Kanté commented with his characteristic, discreet optimism. Although he didn't fully confirm it, the midfielder hinted that he will lead the Bleus at the Stade de France in the absence of Kylian Mbappé. With 63 caps for the national team, Kanté’s experience makes him the ideal candidate for the captaincy. Initially, the player tried to maintain some suspense in front of the journalists, but a few minutes later, Didier Deschamps ended the speculation by revealing the much-anticipated news.
“Because of his experience, for who he is, and what he does on the pitch. He has always been a leader, a driving force, recognized by the whole group. Even without the armband, he’s been an important leader for years,” the French coach declared. With these words, Deschamps implicitly confirmed that in the absence of Mbappé and Aurélien Tchouaméni, Kanté will be the captain against Israel unless there’s a last-minute change.
Kanté, a Natural Leader
This appointment is a well-deserved recognition for a player who already captained France at the start of the match against Belgium on September 9th before Mbappé entered the game. Despite the responsibility that comes with the captaincy, Kanté expressed confidence in his ability to take on the role. “I think naturally, with age and status, seeing the young players coming through, it becomes easier to communicate and pass on messages. With the armband, it encourages that even more. Overall, I feel good and ready for it,” said the current Al-Ittihad player, speaking with confidence and unity.
“I had a two-year break, so I want to savor every moment and give my all. There’s a new generation, new players. As long as I can, I will give my maximum. (…) I have my own personality, and I want to inspire the group with what I can bring on the field. Off the pitch, it’s about using everyone’s strengths. We’re in this together,” he concluded wisely.
Even without the official title of captain, N'Golo Kanté already embodies the spirit and attitude of a true leader.
