This Innovative Rule Will Be Delayed in the Premier League
The semi-automated offside technology, already in use in UEFA competitions, will be delayed in the Premier League and will not come into operation until 2025.
This system, which reduces the waiting time to determine if a player is offside or not, was set to be introduced after one of the upcoming international breaks in October and November.
However, in a meeting held this Thursday in London among league representatives, clubs were informed that testing with this technology is not yet complete and that it may not be implemented until at least the start of 2025.
Premier League clubs voted unanimously in favor of introducing this system in April of this year.
The technology was first used in the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar and later transferred to UEFA competitions, including the Champions League, Europa League, and Conference League, as well as the recent Euro 2024, which was won by Spain.
