The South Americans Lead Liverpool to Victory Against Bournemouth
A double from Luis Díaz and a stunning goal from Darwin Núñez returned Liverpool to winning ways in the Premier League with a 3-0 victory over Bournemouth, managed by Andoni Iraola.
The Reds fell last week at Anfield against Nottingham Forest but bounced back by storming San Siro in the Champions League and confirmed their return to form in the league against Bournemouth.
However, they had an early scare when Semenyo scored from a Justin Kluivert cross. Liverpool's defenders immediately called for offside, and VAR confirmed after a quick review that the forward was indeed marginally offside, so the goal was disallowed.
Had it counted, the match could have taken a different turn, but Liverpool quickly took control after those first five minutes, demolishing Bournemouth, who held on for nearly half an hour thanks to several impressive saves by Kepa Arrizabalaga against Luis Díaz.
However, the Spanish keeper was at fault for the first goal, misjudging a ball outside the area. Luis Díaz pounced on the loose ball, dribbled past the keeper, and scored into an empty net.
Díaz was the standout player and completed his brace two minutes later after a run by Trent Alexander-Arnold, who carried the ball from his own half to the area before setting up Díaz, who controlled with his right foot and beat Kepa low.
To cap off a perfect first half, Darwin, who had yet to score this season, netted a spectacular goal with a left-footed strike into the far corner.
In the second half, Federico Chiesa, making his Premier League debut, had a couple of good chances to score, but Caoimhín Kelleher, standing in for the injured Alisson Becker, made two outstanding saves to keep a clean sheet.
With twelve points from five matches, Liverpool moves to the top of the table, tied with City but with a better goal difference as Pep Guardiola's side faces Arsenal on Sunday.
