The Cameraman's Response After Martínez's Controversial Aggression
Dibu Martínez was at the center of a major controversy at the end of the match against Colombia, where the world champions lost in Barranquilla. The goalkeeper was caught "assaulting" a cameraman who approached to film his reaction, and now Jhony Jackson, the other protagonist, has spoken about the incident.
“Dibu, brother, I’m the cameraman you assaulted during the match against Colombia. I always look for reactions because the director asks me to. I simply go onto the field after 90 minutes, knowing that everyone is tired and exhausted, but I’m there to capture reactions,” said Jackson, the cameraman "assaulted" by Dibu hours after the incident.
Lastly, the cameraman sent a message of reassurance to the goalkeeper despite the defeat in Barranquilla. “I wanted to tell you to stay calm. Everyone has lost games in life. Perhaps this defeat meant a lot to you, but keep moving forward, Dibu,” he concluded.
What Happened?
Goalkeeper Emiliano "Dibu" Martínez slapped a TV camera that was following him just minutes after the Argentine national team was defeated by Colombia 2-1 in the eighth round of the South American qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup, held in Barranquilla.
Martínez, who sometimes loses his composure, greeted several Colombian players on the field, including his Aston Villa teammate, Jhon Jader Durán. However, at one point, he walked up and struck the camera with his hand.
Then, as if nothing had happened, Dibu continued walking and hugging his teammates.
The incident was caught by the broadcast cameras and quickly uploaded to social media, where Colombian fans interpreted it as an act of bad sportsmanship.
With the 2-1 victory, Colombia broke a 31-year winless streak against Argentina at the Metropolitano Stadium in Barranquilla.
