Scare for Madrid with Bellingham and Carvajal
Dani Carvajal was substituted immediately after scoring the equalizer for Real Madrid against Espanyol, which ended in a 4-1 victory, due to a knock. Carlo Ancelotti confirmed that Jude Bellingham's shoulder discomfort from last season has returned, but he is optimistic about having the Englishman available for Tuesday's match against Alavés.
In the early minutes of the game, Bellingham dove for a ball and felt intense pain in his shoulder, requiring attention from the medical staff. He was able to continue playing, but when substituted, he was seen on the bench showing signs of pain.
"Carvajal is feeling it; it’s just a knock, nothing particularly serious. Bellingham had a shoulder issue that has resolved well; he played the whole match without problems. We'll see how the shoulder reacts tomorrow, but it doesn’t seem concerning," Ancelotti said at the press conference.
"Bellingham has always played with protection, and this season he started without it because he was doing very well. Now he has had a recurrence of the shoulder issue that has resolved well; he didn’t ask to be substituted. He needs to take care of himself, but I believe he can be available for the next match," he added.
