Saint-Étienne is on the brink of returning to Ligue 1 after a decisive 2-0 home victory over Rodez in the Ligue 2 promotion playoffs.

The goals for the home side were scored by Irvin Cardona in the 64th minute and Nathanael Mbuku in stoppage time (90'+6), bringing “Les Verts” a step closer to rejoining France’s top tier, from which they were relegated in the 2021-2022 season.

Saint-Étienne will now face Metz, the team that finished third from bottom in the Ligue 1 standings, to determine the final spot for the 2024-2025 season in France's premier football league.
