Ruben Amorim Lands in England to Sign with Manchester United
Manchester United has officially announced the end of their relationship with interim manager Ruud van Nistelrooy and reported the arrival of coach Rúben Amorim, coming from Sporting Portugal, who completed his first day at his new club.
"Ruben Amorim arrives at Carrington," reported the English club on their website. "The new Manchester United coach arrived at the complex this Monday afternoon. He took a flight from Beja Airport in Portugal to Manchester just hours after leading a 4-2 victory for Sporting over Braga," the club added in the statement.
He was welcomed outside the main building by Manchester United's CEO Omar Berrada, Director of Football Dan Ashworth, and Technical Director Jason Wilcox. Following this, according to United, he will meet with "key personnel" to begin his work once his visa is processed.
"Our new boss has thirteen days to prepare for his first game in charge of the first team: on Sunday, November 24, against Ipswich Town."
The British club also issued an official statement to bid farewell to Ruud van Nistelrooy, who took over from Erik ten Haag following United's loss to West Ham (2-1) on October 27. The former Real Madrid player, among other teams, successfully led United in the four matches he managed: winning 5-2 against Leicester in the FA Cup and 3-0 against the same team in the Premier League; drawing 1-1 with Chelsea also in the league, and overcoming PAOK 2-0 in the Europa League.
"Ruud is, and always will be, a Manchester United legend. We are grateful for his contribution and the way he has embraced his role during his time at the club. He will always be very welcome at Old Trafford. Rene Hake, Jelle ten Rouwelaar, and Pieter Morel have also left, and we wish them the best for the future. We will confirm the full composition of the first male team's coaching staff in due course," concluded United in their statement.
