Roberto De Zerbi Appointed as New Manager of Marseille
Roberto De Zerbi has been named the new manager of Marseille for the next three seasons.
De Zerbi, 45, is noted for his "solid experience at the highest level" and his "offensive and dominant playing philosophy," Marseille highlighted in their announcement.
The former attacking midfielder, who began his coaching career at 34, joins Marseille after two seasons with Brighton in the English Premier League, having previously managed Shakhtar Donetsk in Ukraine and Sassuolo in Italy for three years.
De Zerbi steps into a volatile position, where Spanish manager Marcelino García Toral left in 2023 due to fan opposition and Argentine Jorge Sampaoli departed in 2022 over disagreements with the board. Their respective successors had short stints at the club.
"We are very proud to welcome Roberto to Olympique de Marseille, a talented and renowned coach at the European level," said the club's president, Spaniard Pablo Longoria.
