Official: Dortmund Announces Terzic's Replacement
Former Turkish international and Real Madrid player Nuri Sahin has been appointed as the new head coach of Borussia Dortmund, succeeding Edin Terzic, the German club announced on Friday.
Sahin, who developed as a player at Dortmund, has signed a contract until 2027 and will be assisted by Sven Bender, another former player of the club.
"It is a great honor for me to become the head coach of Borussia Dortmund. From day one, we will put all our passion and energy into achieving the greatest possible success," Sahin stated.
In the 2010/2011 season, Sahin was something of an on-field representative for then-coach Jürgen Klopp. That season, Dortmund won the championship, and Sahin was named the Bundesliga Player of the Year, after which he moved to Real Madrid.
"Nuri knows the club and its DNA both from his time as a player and from his time as an assistant coach," said Dortmund's sporting director, Lars Ricken.
