Messi Hasn't Won a Match in Nearly a Month
Lionel Messi and the Argentina national team suffered a controversial loss, with the iconic number “10” visibly frustrated as they failed to secure points against a tough Paraguay side.
This marked Messi's third consecutive defeat, following two losses with Inter Miami that led to their early elimination from the MLS Playoffs. Winning has become a distant memory for the Argentine star.
When Did Messi Last Win a Match?
Messi's last victory came on October 25, playing at home against Atlanta United — ironically, the team that ultimately eliminated David Beckham's club from the playoffs by winning two out of three matches in MLS's new postseason format.
In that match, goals from Luis Suárez (6') and Jordi Alba (60') secured the win. However, Inter Miami subsequently lost 2-1 at Mercedes-Benz Stadium and 3-2 in Miami.
After those matches, Messi joined the Argentina squad, preparing for and ultimately losing their first match of this FIFA break.
When Will Messi Play Again?
Messi's next chance to break this winless streak comes on November 19 against Peru. By then, 25 days will have passed since his last victory. It will also be his final opportunity to secure a win in 2024.
If he doesn't, Messi will have to wait until February or March 2025 when the new MLS season begins.
