Let’s Talk Money: How Many Millions Does the Copa América Distribute?
The 2024 Copa América, to be held in the United States, is one of the most eagerly awaited tournaments for all participating teams. Not only do they have the chance to win the coveted and historic trophy, but the national teams also have the opportunity to receive a substantial sum of money to boost their coffers.
According to the American media outlet ESPN, merely participating will earn the 16 teams a bonus of $2 million each. Furthermore, it is mentioned that this year the participation fees have broken records, with a total of $72 million to be distributed.
The winning team will add $16 million to its coffers, in addition to the $2 million participation fee, setting a record amount and significantly surpassing the $6.5 million Argentina received in the previous edition, where La Albiceleste claimed the title.
It has also been revealed that the runner-up will receive $7 million; meanwhile, the third and fourth places will be awarded $5 million and $4 million, respectively. The national teams that reach the quarter-finals of the Copa América will each earn $2 million.
The host organization has also agreed to cover the costs of hotels and air and ground transportation for the teams, making this one of the most financially generous editions of the Copa América.
This 48th edition of the Copa América will feature the national teams of Mexico, Canada, and the United States - the co-hosts of the upcoming 2026 World Cup - as invited participants. The tournament will kick off with a concert by Colombian singer Feid before the Argentina vs. Canada match, to be held at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia, on June 20, and will conclude on July 14 at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, Florida.
