Latest Update on the Hungarian Staff Member who Collapsed
Ádám Szalai, a member of the Hungarian national football team's coaching staff, is "stable and conscious" in a hospital in Amsterdam after collapsing on the bench during his team's match against the Netherlands, according to an official statement from the Hungarian Football Federation.
"Ádám Szalai fell ill in the early minutes of the Netherlands-Hungary match, but his condition is stable and he is conscious. A few minutes ago, he was transferred by ambulance to a hospital in Amsterdam for examination," the statement reads.
Szalai collapsed at the start of the UEFA Nations League match between the Netherlands and Hungary. Referee Jesús Gil Manzano stopped the match, and coaching staff members gathered around Szalai until medical services arrived, placing a tarp to maintain the privacy of the former Real Madrid Castilla player, who retired from football in 2023.
Szalai was then transferred to a hospital in Amsterdam, and the match resumed ten minutes later while Szalai undergoes medical tests to determine the extent of his condition.
