La Liga Reports Atlético Fans' Insults Against Courtois
La Liga has reported nine offensive chants from Atlético Madrid fans prior to the suspension of the derby against Real Madrid due to the throwing of objects, including one aimed at the white goalkeeper, Thibaut Courtois, who was subsequently chanted at with "Courtois, die" after celebrating the Madrid team's goal.
According to La Liga, the document highlighted chants made by a group of local fans located in the Lower South Stand, sectors 127 to 133, behind the goal at that end. Nine of these chants occurred between the 1st and 46th minutes, while three— all directed at Courtois— were made between the 65th and 68th minutes, after the match had already been interrupted.
The report, which is sent weekly to the Disciplinary Committee of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) and the Anti-Violence Commission, also notes that the television footage shows several hooded fans in that location.
Among the chants reproduced by La Liga, the following were aimed at the Belgian goalkeeper and former Atlético player, both before the suspension and in the moments after: "Come and see this, this is not a goalkeeper, it's a cabaret whore!" (45th min. and 68th min.), "Courtois, die!" (65:20 min.), and "Hey, bastard!" (68th min.).
The complaint details what occurred on the pitch after Brazilian Eder Militao's goal in the 64th minute when three lighters and a water bottle were thrown from the south stand towards Courtois, prompting referee Busquets Ferrer to activate the protocol for thrown objects and announce over the PA system that it must cease.
