Koeman's Sting at Barcelona Over Frenkie de Jong's Injury
After confirming his absence from the Euro, the Netherlands' coach blamed Barcelona for the management of the midfielder's ankle injury.
If there’s one scenario every coach wants to avoid just days before a tournament like the Euro starts, it’s the one Ronald Koeman is experiencing right now with the Netherlands.
Frenkie de Jong, one of the team's stars, will ultimately miss Euro 2024. The national team was optimistic, hoping to have him back for the final group stage match, but lingering ankle issues from his recent injury have ruled him out.
Naturally, Ronald Koeman is not pleased and has directly blamed Barcelona for how they managed the player's physical problems.
“He (Frenkie de Jong) has a history with this injury. His club (Barcelona) decided to take risks, and now this is the price we have to pay for it.”
Koeman was visibly frustrated. With the Euro starting soon, the challenge ahead has become even more difficult with Frenkie's absence.
