Juventus Sign Douglas Luiz
Juventus Turin has announced an agreement with Aston Villa for the transfer of Brazilian midfielder Douglas Luiz for $50 million, plus an additional $1.5 million in fees.
According to a statement from the Italian club, the Rio de Janeiro-born player, who was born on May 9, 1998, has signed a five-year contract, running until June 30, 2029.
Douglas Luiz developed in the youth ranks of Vasco da Gama, debuting for their first team at 18 years old. He was signed by Manchester City in the summer of 2017 and subsequently loaned to Girona, who had just been promoted to Spain's La Liga.
The midfielder played 46 matches in Spain before being signed by Aston Villa in July 2019. During his time with Villa, he made 204 appearances across all competitions, scoring 22 goals and providing 24 assists.
Luiz was part of Brazil's Olympic gold medal-winning team at Tokyo 2020 and had already debuted for the senior national team by then. He is currently competing in his second Copa América with the Canarinha.
