Is Camavinga Unlikely to Be at 100% for the Derby?
Eduardo Camavinga wrapped up the preparations for the derby that Real Madrid will play on Sunday at the Civitas Metropolitano against Atlético Madrid, training with a noticeable bandage on his recently recovered knee. He will participate in a match that Kylian Mbappé, David Alaba, Dani Ceballos, and Brahim Díaz will miss due to injury.
The final training session, one of three arranged by Italian coach Carlo Ancelotti to prepare for the visit to Atlético Madrid, confirmed Camavinga's recovery along with the four absences from the Madrid squad for the derby.
For the third consecutive day, Camavinga was present in the group dynamic and increased the intensity during a final test on Saturday after having not finished training with his teammates for two days.
The French midfielder appeared cheerful and joking during rondos, despite wearing a significant bandage on his left knee, which he sprained on August 13, just before the season's first official match, the UEFA Super Cup.
In contrast, Ancelotti will be without Mbappé, who has been absent from the pitch for the third day in a row after suffering a minor muscle tear in the hamstring of his left leg on Tuesday during the league match against Alavés. The French forward joins Alaba in the infirmary, who continues his lengthy recovery from a serious knee injury, along with Spanish midfielders Ceballos and Brahim.
Ancelotti worked with his available players on the final instructions for the derby in a session where he gauged the last sensations of the players vying for starting positions, with four candidates competing for one spot: Luka Modric, Arda Güler, Camavinga, and Endrick.
