Infantino says the 2025 Club World Cup will be "historic"
FIFA President Gianni Infantino stated on Tuesday that the 2025 Club World Cup will be "the beginning of something historic" that will change football for the better and emphasized that the tournament's revenues will be reinvested "in club football worldwide."
“We’re talking about something never seen before. Next year’s FIFA Club World Cup will bring the magic of a national team World Cup to the club level,” Infantino said in a recorded message sent to the Olé Sports Summit event taking place this week in Buenos Aires.
“This tournament will mark the beginning of something historic, something that will transform our sport for the better and for all future generations who will come to love it as we do,” he added, describing the competition as “innovative, inclusive, and merit-based.”
Infantino also explained that FIFA “won’t keep a single cent” from the revenues generated by the 2025 Club World Cup, which will instead be reinvested “in club football worldwide,” something he believes will “bring global solidarity to club football for the first time.”
He also wished luck to the South American clubs that have qualified and expressed excitement about the possibility of a direct matchup between Argentine clubs Boca Juniors and River Plate in the tournament’s final stages.
The inaugural edition of the Club World Cup will kick off on Sunday, June 15, 2025, at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami and conclude on July 13 at MetLife Stadium in New York/New Jersey, which will also host the final of the 2026 World Cup in the United States, Mexico, and Canada the following year.
