Gago's Exit Clause at Chivas Opens Door to Boca Juniors
Fernando Gago, the current head coach of Chivas, has an exit clause that could facilitate his move to Boca Juniors if both clubs reach an agreement. This clause was included in the contract he signed in December 2023, allowing both the club and the coach to terminate the contract under certain conditions. According to this clause, Boca Juniors would need to pay around $2 million to break Gago's contract with the Mexican team.
The director of Boca Juniors, Diego Martínez, resigned following a 2-0 defeat to Belgrano last Saturday. This marked the team's third consecutive loss in the Argentine league, leading to Martínez's decision to step down. The coach, who took the position in January 2024, informed club president Juan Román Riquelme of his decision after the match, expressing gratitude for the opportunity to manage the club.
Amid rumors of a possible return to Boca, Gago himself is reportedly interested in going back to the club where he began his playing career. While there have been no official movements yet, Gago's contract with Chivas expires in December 2024, placing him on Boca's radar.
Despite a positive performance with Chivas, recent defeats have raised doubts about his future with the team. Should Boca Juniors decide to make a formal offer, Gago could activate his exit clause and return to Argentina. However, so far, Chivas has not received any official proposals.
