France Reaches Euro Semifinals with This Incredible Stat
France has made history in Euro 2024 by becoming the only team to reach the semifinals with such a low goal tally in the group stage format, before their upcoming clash with Spain next Tuesday in Munich.
There is no similar example in the history of the continental tournament as what has happened with Didier Deschamps' team. They have progressed with two narrow victories (1-0 in the first match against Austria, thanks to an own goal by Maximilian Wöber, and in the Round of 16 against Belgium, with a deflection off Jan Vertonghen) and three draws, two of which were goalless.
This happened in the second match against the Netherlands and in the quarterfinals against Portugal, where their penalty prowess and Joao Félix's miss propelled the French team to the semifinals. Their other draw was 1-1 against Poland in the final group stage match, with Kylian Mbappé's only goal coming from a penalty.
They also conceded their only goal in the tournament so far during that match, a penalty scored by Robert Lewandowski.
