Argentine goalkeeper Emiliano ‘Dibu’ Martínez has apologized after being handed a two-match suspension by FIFA following an incident that occurred after Argentina's recent 2-1 defeat to Colombia. 

The suspension stems from a push he directed at a television camera operator, as well as an inappropriate gesture he made with the Copa América trophy following the match against Chile.

Martínez has accepted the punishment and issued a public apology, stating, “I accept the FIFA sanction and apologize if I offended anyone. The moment of celebration is meant to bring smiles to many kids and not to disrespect anyone. I will support my friends during this FIFA date with the pain of not being able to be there.”

The goalkeeper, who plays for Aston Villa, emphasized that it was never his intention to offend anyone, and he believed that his gesture, which was well-received by many fans, was not malicious. “I will try not to offend anyone again and focus solely on winning titles with Argentina and Aston Villa,” he remarked.

Despite his remorse, Martínez will be absent from Argentina's upcoming matches against Venezuela and Bolivia, marking a significant loss for the team. Throughout his career, the Dibu has been a controversial figure both on and off the pitch, drawing both admirers and critics.
