Morocco Thrash Gabon with Brahim Leading the Charge
Brahim Díaz spearheaded Morocco's impressive 5-1 victory over Gabon at the Franceville Stadium, extending their perfect record in the AFCON 2025 Qualifiers group stage.
Under the guidance of Walid Regragui, the Moroccan team has achieved five wins in as many matches. In a traditionally challenging venue, the Atlas Lions broke a twenty-two-year streak without an away victory against Thierry Mouyouma's squad.
The starting lineup included Real Madrid's Brahim Díaz, Naif Aguerd from Real Sociedad, and Abde from Betis, along with other well-known players in Spanish football such as Achraf Hakimi and former Sevilla goalkeeper Bono. Youssef En-Nesyri also came off the bench in the second half.
Despite Gabon taking an early lead four minutes into the game with a goal from Denis Bouanga, Morocco quickly responded. Jamal Harkass equalized after fifteen minutes, capitalizing on a cross from Achraf.
Brahim then took center stage, giving Morocco the lead in the 23rd minute following a corner, and he doubled the advantage three minutes later by tapping in a ball at the far post.
An hour into the match, the Real Madrid player was substituted for Zakaria Abdoukhlal. Towards the end of the game, Morocco accelerated their efforts, with En-Nesyri, who had just entered the game, scoring the fourth goal. Ismael Saibari capped off the scoring with a fifth goal in the 90th minute.
