Morocco on Edge Over Hakim Ziyech: Will He Play in AFCON Round of 16 Against South Africa?
The Galatasaray forward sustained an ankle injury in the last group stage match, and his participation against South Africa is a big question mark.
After Morocco's stellar World Cup performance in Qatar, the North African team is one of the main contenders to win this AFCON edition. In the round of 16, they face South Africa, but the big question now is whether one of their key players, Hakim Ziyech, will be able to take the field.
The Galatasaray forward sustained an injury in the last group stage match against Zambia, a game in which the "Atlas Lions" prevailed, precisely with a goal from Ziyech. The player had to be substituted at halftime due to an ankle injury.
Tests revealed that he suffered a severe ankle sprain, for which he has been receiving treatment in recent days, preventing him from participating in training sessions ahead of the round of 16 match with the rest of his teammates.
The Moroccan forward remains under observation, and his participation in the match against the "Bafana Bafana" is currently in serious doubt. However, the coach of Morocco, Walid Regragui, whose suspension was overturned, will be on the sidelines to lead the team.
