The death of Lazar Dukic at the 2024 CrossFit Games remains unresolved, and now Luka Dukic has broken his silence about his brother’s tragic passing during the competition, stating that "no one" helped him in his attempt to survive in the lake where Event 1 took place.

“What I later saw on the video was that there were no attempts to save Lazar,” Luka wrote. “He was fighting and went down close to two very unequipped volunteers (yes) on the paddleboard who didn’t saw [sic] him, and very close to the finish line.”

Additionally, he mentioned that in one of his conversations with Dave Castro at his hotel, Castro told him that the CrossFit Games would continue as "a tribute to Lazar." Luka responded that at that moment, he was not in a mental state to think clearly and that the decision "was not up to him," to which Castro replied: "it’s not up to you anyway."

What did CrossFit do after Lazar Dukic's death?

As Luka Dukic detailed, the CrossFit Games continued as planned. First, a tribute was held with all the athletes one day after the Serbian athlete's death, although some participants disagreed with continuing the competition and withdrew.

Several reports suggest there was a possibility of canceling the competition and distributing the winnings equally among the athletes, which would have benefited Lazar Dukic’s family more significantly. However, this did not happen, and some participants were upset.

In the end, Tia-Clair Toomey and James Sprague won the titles of the fittest woman and man on the planet, in an event that will forever be remembered for the death of Lazar Dukic.
