Lewis Hamilton Wins the British Grand Prix at Home
Seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes) won the British Grand Prix, the twelfth race of the Formula One World Championship, held at the Silverstone circuit. Spanish drivers Carlos Sainz (Ferrari) and Fernando Alonso (Aston Martin) finished fifth and eighth, respectively.
Hamilton triumphed ahead of Dutch driver Max Verstappen (Red Bull), a three-time world champion, who reinforced his lead in the championship with second place. Fellow Brit Lando Norris (McLaren) secured third in a race where Mexican driver Sergio Pérez (Red Bull) finished seventeenth.
Sir Lewis, 39, achieved his first victory of the season (his first in nearly three years since December 2021 when he won in Saudi Arabia), extending his historic record to 104 F1 victories. He became the first driver to win the same Grand Prix nine times.
Australian Oscar Piastri (McLaren) finished fourth, and German driver Nico Hülkenberg surprisingly maintained his sixth-place starting position.
Canadian Lance Stroll finished seventh, just ahead of his Aston Martin teammate, two-time world champion Fernando Alonso, who has claimed two of his 32 career victories at this track (2006 and 2011). Thai driver Alex Albon (Williams) and Japanese driver Yuki Tsunoda (RB) also scored points, finishing ninth and tenth, respectively, at the circuit that hosted the first-ever F1 race in 1950.
Verstappen now leads the championship with 255 points, 84 more than Norris and 105 ahead of Monegasque driver Charles Leclerc (Ferrari), who finished fourteenth this Sunday.
