Fernando Alonso, Aston Martin driver, expressed that it is a "great day" for the team and an "incredible opportunity" to work with Adrian Newey, the team's latest high-profile signing.

Alonso, a two-time world champion, was present this Tuesday at Silverstone for Newey's unveiling as Aston Martin's new Chief Engineer.

"We've competed against each other for many years, but he has always been an inspiration because of his talent. We’ve pushed ourselves as drivers, as engineers, to be on the same level. It’s a great day for the team," Alonso said.

"This is the team of the future. It’s an incredible opportunity to work with Adrian."

Newey, who signed a five-year contract with the British team after nearly two decades at Red Bull, where he became the most successful engineer in F1 history, also praised Alonso.

"We’ve battled a lot over the years, almost as rivals. We were close to joining forces at Red Bull in 2008 and 2009, but it didn’t happen, which was a shame. He’s a legend in our sport, and I’m really looking forward to working with him," Newey commented.
