Ilia Topuria Turns Down Camp Nou and Aims to Challenge 'Canelo' Álvarez
UFC Champion Ilia Topuria has confessed that he would flatly refuse to fight at Camp Nou, the home of FC Barcelona. Additionally, he wouldn't want to retire from combat sports without trying boxing.
During a rapid-fire questions test for El Partidazo de Cope, the Spanish-Georgian fighter was asked, "The Bernabéu is under construction and unavailable. They offer you Camp Nou. Do you accept?" to which the fighter responded directly, "No."
Having defeated Alexander Volkanovski in the latest UFC 298 event, he is absolutely convinced he will retire undefeated, asserting that "nobody" will defeat him. On another note, he aims to try his hand in boxing... against a high-level opponent, none other than the current pound-for-pound best, Saúl "Canelo" Álvarez.
For now, the fighter is taking a break, and when "his body demands it," he will return to training to continue defending his featherweight title. However, he is determined to retire between the ages of 30 and 32, as he has been competing at a professional level since he was 18.
