Sulaimán: Canelo Álvarez Will Outshine UFC's Event at The Sphere
A great rivalry is beginning to brew between the Boxing and Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) scenes, with each side defending their organization from their corner, as recently demonstrated by Mauricio Sulaimán, President of the World Boxing Council (WBC).
The organization's leader downplayed the significance of the UFC also having its big night on September 14 in Las Vegas, Nevada, asserting that all eyes will be on the card headlined by Saúl "Canelo" Álvarez against Edgar Berlanga.
Sulaimán remarked that the only interesting thing about the UFC card is its venue, The Sphere.
“It’s not a great card; the main attraction of the UFC is where the fight will be held, The Sphere. The big card is the boxing one; those who love boxing will go to see Canelo, and those who understand levels will go to see Canelo. Those who want to take a picture at The Sphere will go to see the UFC,” he said.
Like the WBC President, "Canelo" also expressed confidence that his fight will win the audience battle during the weekend that commemorates Mexico’s Independence Day.
It’s worth noting that the fighter from Guadalajara is one of the most anticipated and lucrative figures in combat sports when it comes to ticket sales and PPV events, though he is also one of the most criticized for allegedly choosing lower-level opponents.
