Mike Tyson vs Jake Paul: Why Is He Fighting a YouTuber?
Boxing legend Mike Tyson has revealed his true motivation for facing Jake Paul, and surprisingly, it’s not money. On Friday, November 15, Tyson and Paul will face off at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, in a boxing match broadcast live on Netflix.
This highly anticipated fight, previously postponed due to a medical emergency involving Tyson, sees two fighters with different motivations, yet the same desire to succeed.
In an interview with LADbible Group, Tyson stated that his drive to fight isn’t related to money. Although the payment amount has not been revealed, it is known to be “substantial.”
“This fight isn’t going to change my financial situation. Even if it were for free, it wouldn’t matter. My wife tells me I don’t have to do this,” Tyson said.
When asked about his real reason for fighting, Tyson responded, “This is what I want to do; it’s part of who I am. I’m looking for my glory... It’s going to be amazing.”
For his part, Paul believes Tyson is “underestimating” him and claims to have the mental edge. “I feel like I have a mental advantage, and I truly think he underestimates me,” Paul said.
“I know he’s training hard, but I heard what he said about me: ‘He doesn’t have power, he didn’t knock out Tommy Fury or Nate Diaz.’ He might be right about that, but I’m a different fighter now. I’ve progressed exponentially every year, especially now with my new team after those fights,” Paul explained. “I think, in terms of mind games, he’s not ready for this new version of me.”
Regarding the money, Paul told SPORTbible, “Sure, there are guaranteed figures, additional bonuses, plus earnings from sales. These are key indicators that trigger other payments.”
To conclude, Paul said, “This is the biggest payday of my career, out of all my fights. Without a doubt, it’s a pretty juicy sum.”
Mike Tyson's Legend Lives On Mike Tyson continues to make his mark in his career. This time, the champion is coming out of his comfortable retirement to try to break the record of British boxer Steve Ward, who holds the Guinness World Record for being the oldest professional boxer, having fought his last match at 60 years old in 2017.
The Tyson-Paul fight will set another record: the largest age gap in professional boxing history, with a 31-year difference between the fighters. While Tyson is 58 years old, Jake Paul, at 27, is just starting out in boxing. Paul has nine wins, six of them by knockout, and one loss, a record that pales in comparison to Tyson’s 50 victories, 44 of which were by knockout, and only six losses in his historic career.
A Million-Dollar Purse and the Cost of Watching Live The fight is not only a major sports spectacle but also a huge financial opportunity. With an $80 million purse, split evenly between the two boxers, Tyson and Paul will headline one of the most lucrative events in recent boxing history.
For fans, attending the event also represents a luxury experience: tickets range from $5,000 to $20,000 depending on the stadium location. Additionally, an exclusive suite has been reserved at a price of $2 million for those seeking the ultimate in exclusivity.
Despite the huge sum, Tyson has made it clear that money is not his primary motivation, and that this fight will not change his lifestyle.
