(VIDEO) Jake Paul Defeats Mike Tyson in Disappointing Fight
The fight, official in nature but not sanctioned by any major boxing organization worldwide, was scheduled for eight rounds of two minutes each.
Jake Paul, a social media influencer, defeated Mike Tyson, widely regarded as one of the greatest boxers in history, by unanimous decision on Friday at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
The judges' scorecards favored Paul with scores of 79-73, 79-73, and 80-72.
Tyson, 58, showed his age from the beginning of the fight, despite dodging a right hand from his opponent with a swift waist movement.
Paul, 27, took advantage of his speed in the second round, using his jab to hit and move, keeping his distance from the once-powerful punches of the former heavyweight champion.
By the third round, ‘Iron’ Mike’s sluggishness became more apparent as Jake landed a pair of left hands that shook his head.
In the fourth round, the legendary heavyweight kept a tight guard while the influencer appeared to hold back to avoid causing further damage.
The veteran, born in Fort Greene, New York, maintained his defensive stance in the sixth and seventh rounds, keeping his guard up but lacking the energy to attack.
Paul did not push the pace. He dominated with his jab, landing an average of five punches for every one from his visibly exhausted opponent, who was gasping for air between rounds.
The eighth and final round followed the same pattern, with both boxers moving cautiously around the ring. Jake Paul landed 97 punches compared to Tyson’s 18 throughout the fight.
‘Iron’ Mike retired from professional boxing in 2005 with a record of 50 wins, 44 by knockout, and six losses.
Paul, who began his boxing career in 2018, now boasts 10 wins, seven by knockout, and one loss.
Tyson earned $20 million for this fight, while Paul walked away with $40 million.
The event received widespread promotion and was streamed on Netflix, a video-on-demand platform with over 280 million subscribers worldwide, which generated nearly $34 billion in revenue last year.
