Cavaliers Keep Making History as De'Aaron Fox Shines in the NBA Cup
De'Aaron Fox delivered a spectacular 60-point performance on Friday but couldn't prevent the Sacramento Kings from losing to the Minnesota Timberwolves in the second round of the Emirates NBA Cup. Meanwhile, the Cleveland Cavaliers continued their historic run, extending their undefeated streak to an impressive 14-0.
KINGS 126 - TIMBERWOLVES 130
With a career-high in points and the highest-scoring game in Kings history, Fox dazzled with 60 points on an incredible 22 of 35 shooting, 6 of 10 from three-point range, and 10 of 11 from the free-throw line. The guard also added 7 assists.
However, the Kings (7-6), who were down by 20 points in the third quarter, fell in overtime to the Wolves (7-6). Minnesota neutralized Fox’s historic performance with stellar contributions from Anthony Edwards (36 points) and Julius Randle (26 points).
CAVALIERS 144 - BULLS 126
With 14 consecutive wins, the Cleveland Cavaliers tied the fourth-best start in NBA history, trailing only three teams: the 24-0 Golden State Warriors (2015-2016) and the 15-0 Houston Rockets (1993-1994) and Washington Capitols (1948-1949).
Donovan Mitchell led Cleveland with 37 points and 7 rebounds, while Darius Garland contributed 29 points and 9 assists. Jarrett Allen had 24 points and 10 rebounds, and Caris LeVert added 22 points and 8 assists.
For the Bulls (5-8), Coby White (29 points) and Zach LaVine (25 points and 8 rebounds) were the top performers.
SPURS 115 - LAKERS 120
LeBron James (15 points, 16 rebounds, and 12 assists) recorded his fourth consecutive triple-double, something he had never achieved before in his legendary career. The Lakers (8-4) earned their fourth straight victory thanks to a brilliant performance from Anthony Davis, who scored 40 points and grabbed 12 rebounds.
For the Spurs (6-7), Victor Wembanyama, who had stunned with 50 points in his previous game, posted 28 points, 14 rebounds, and 5 assists but also committed 5 turnovers. Chris Paul (11 points and 11 assists) made history by surpassing 12,000 career assists, a milestone only two other players—John Stockton and Jason Kidd—have reached.
MAGIC 98 - SIXERS 86
The Magic (8-6) extended their winning streak to five games and continued to impress despite Paolo Banchero's injury. Franz Wagner led Orlando with 31 points, 11 rebounds, and 6 assists.
In contrast, the Sixers remained in a slump with a dismal 2-10 record. Joel Embiid scored 20 points and grabbed 8 rebounds but shot poorly (5 of 15) and had 6 turnovers. Paul George also struggled with 13 points on 4 of 15 shooting. The lone bright spot for Philadelphia was rookie Jared McCain, who shined again with 29 points.
KNICKS 124 - NETS 122
Jalen Brunson rescued the Knicks (6-6) with a clutch three-pointer with 6.2 seconds remaining, fending off a late rally by the Nets. Coached by Spaniard Jordi Fernández, the Nets had entered the fourth quarter trailing by 18 points.
Cam Thomas led the Nets (5-8) with 43 points on phenomenal shooting (16 of 22 from the field and 7 of 10 from three). For the Knicks, Brunson shined with 37 points and 7 assists, while Mikal Bridges, in his first game against his former team, scored 22 points.
