The NFL Announces 2025 Games in Mexico and Brazil, in Addition to Spain
This will be the first time in history that the NFL relocates up to eight regular-season games outside the United States. Until the current season, the maximum number of such games had been five.
Roger Goodell, commissioner of the NFL, the professional American football league, announced this Sunday that for the 2025 season, the league will hold eight games outside the United States, with destinations that include Mexico and Brazil, as well as Spain at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium in Madrid, which was announced last February.
"As we have previously mentioned, we are going to Spain, and we hope to return to Mexico City and Brazil. We will certainly be back in the United Kingdom. We are considering the possibility of playing in Ireland, and we will likely also return here to Germany," the commissioner stated minutes before the game between the Carolina Panthers and the New York Giants at Munich's Allianz Arena.
The most recent game held in Mexico was in the 2022 season, when the San Francisco 49ers defeated the Arizona Cardinals 38-10 at Estadio Azteca in Mexico City, a venue that, due to renovations in preparation for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, has not been able to host another NFL game.
Goodell pointed out that the five games outside the United States were a success, especially the one held in Week 1 between the Philadelphia Eagles and the Green Bay Packers at Arena Corinthians in São Paulo, which marked the NFL’s first game in South America.
"It has been better than amazing. Starting in Brazil was fantastic; São Paulo was something new for us, and they couldn’t have done better—the teams had a great time. Then, the London series was as extraordinary as always. And now, we have this great way to finish here in Munich; I’m already looking forward to next year," the commissioner said.
Last February, the NFL announced that in the 2025 season, it will play a regular-season game at Madrid’s Santiago Bernabéu Stadium, marking the first NFL game in Spain.
This season, in addition to Brazil, three games were held in London. Two of these took place at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium: New York Jets versus Minnesota Vikings in Week 5, and Chicago Bears versus Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 6. Additionally, the New England Patriots faced the Jaguars in Week 7 at Wembley Stadium.
The series concluded at Munich's Allianz Arena with the matchup between the Giants and the Panthers.
