The Hard Hit on Trevor Lawrence in the NFL
Al-Shaair's hit forces Trevor Lawrence out of the game
Trevor Lawrence, quarterback for the Jacksonville Jaguars, suffered a concussion during Sunday’s game against the Houston Texans, forcing him to leave the field on a medical cart.
Lawrence sustained a hard, illegal hit from linebacker Al-Shaair, who was ejected following the incident. The hit occurred during the second quarter of the game played at EverBank Stadium, home of the Jaguars.
The impact and on-field scuffle
According to television footage, Al-Shaair, instead of avoiding contact, collided head-on and struck the quarterback’s head. Lawrence fell flat on his back on the turf, with his hands stiffly extended forward—an indication of a concussion.
The play sparked a scuffle between players from both teams, suspending the game for about five minutes as fans in the stands threw objects at Texans players.
Jarrian Jones, a defensive player for the Jaguars, was also ejected for his involvement in the altercation.
A concerning injury for the quarterback
This marks the second concussion in Lawrence's career. The 25-year-old quarterback, who was selected in the first round of the 2021 Draft, previously suffered a similar injury in Week 15 of last season during a game against the Baltimore Ravens.
