The NFL announced on Tuesday a three-game suspension without pay for linebacker Azeez Al-Shaair, of the Houston Texans, due to the illegal hit that caused a concussion to quarterback Trevor Lawrence, of the Jacksonville Jaguars, during last Sunday's game.

"Your lack of sportsmanship and respect for football and for everyone who plays, coaches, and enjoys the game is concerning and does not reflect the NFL's core values. Your continued disregard for the NFL's rules of play endangers the health and safety of yourself and your opponents, something that will not be tolerated," stated Runyan in a letter addressed to Al-Shaair.

Incident Details and Player Background

The illegal hit occurred during Week 13 of the season when Lawrence attempted a feet-first slide, a move typically designed to protect quarterbacks from violent contact. According to the official report, the video shows Al-Shaair deliberately striking the quarterback's head and neck with his helmet and forearm in a play that could have been avoided. Additionally, after the hit, the linebacker started a fight on the field.

Vice president Runyan also highlighted that the suspension is supported by Al-Shaair's multiple previous violations involving personal fouls and unsportsmanlike conduct in recent seasons.

Trevor Lawrence, quarterback for the Jaguars, was left lying on the field after the impact, showing clear signs of a concussion, and was immediately attended to by medical staff.

Azeez Al-Shaair will be eligible to return in Week 17, when the Houston Texans face the Baltimore Ravens.
