Barcos grabs winner in wild Alianza Lima win
Hernan Barcos was the hero as Alianza Lima grabbed its first win of the Copa Libertadores group phase, winning a thriller against Tallares 3-2 deep into stoppage-time after a spirited fightback from the visitors.
Veteran Barcos calmy brought a cross down on his chest before firing home in the 95th minute, denying Tallares what would have been its first point of the campaign after it had fought back from 2-0 down in the second half.
Paolo Guerrero put Lima ahead in the 11th minute before completing his brace to double the lead in the 57th.
But a careless penalty was conceded by the hosts and Federico Girotti made no mistake from the spot on 64 minutes before completing his own double five minutes later with a bullet header to level the scores.
Lima then lost Carlos Zambrano eight minutes from time after he was shown a second yellow card, but the hosts continued to push for a winner and eventually found it through Barcos.
Lima's first win puts it on four points, level with second-placed Sao Paulo, but having played a game more. Tallares, meanwhile, still has no points after a third straight defeat and props up the table.
